New Myrnam School made top ten shortlist of the World’s Best School Prize

St. Paul’s New Myrnam School has been named a top ten shortlist of the World’s Best School Prize for the Environmental Action Category.

The announcement was shared at a school assembly on June 15. The New Myrnam School is the only Canadian school to be selected for the Top 10 shortlist. New Myrnam School is one of ten schools to have been shortlisted in the Environmental Action category.

The five World’s Best School Prizes (Community Collaboration, Environmental Action, Innovation, Overcoming Adversity, and Supporting Healthy Lives) celebrates schools everywhere for the pivotal role they play in developing the next generation of learners and for their enormous contribution to society’s progress. The Prizes were established to share the best practices of schools that are transforming the lives of their students and making a real difference in their communities.

The St. Paul school’s environment program started with a greenhouse extension project but has since progressed to repurposing a school bus into a net zero tiny home and transforming electric golf carts into sustainable modes of transportation.

Vikas Pota, Founder of T4 Education and the World’s Best School Prizes gave congratulations to the Canadian school.

“The schools shortlisted for the World’s Best School Prizes, no matter where they can be found or what they teach, all have one thing in common. They all have a strong school culture. Their leaders know how to attract and motivate exceptional educators, inspire change, and build excellent teaching and learning environments. Schools across the globe will learn from the story of this trailblazing Canadian institution and the culture it has cultivated.”

Along with being shortlisted for the World’s Best School Prize the school was also the recipient of an Alberta Emerald Award.

The Top 3 finalists for each of the five World’s Best School Prizes will be announced in September 2023 followed by the winners in October.
