The Lakeland Junior B Heat have punched a ticket to provincials after winning two games over the weekend.
The weekend was full of games as the Heat battled the Sylvan Lake Yettis twice avoiding a third tiebreaker.
The first game saw the teams clash on Saturday as the Heat won 11-8. The Lakeland heat took a three-point lead and kept the pressure up taking charge in the series. The second game saw the teams clash Sunday with an overtime nail-biter 13-9 to claim their prize.
Daryl Hodinsky the Head Coach for the Lakeland Junior B Heat says the team fought hard.
“It was a real good team effort to come up with the two wins. We had a tough opponent in the Sylvan Lake Yettis and they gave us a good run for our money.”
Now the Heat is headed to provincials in Innisfail this weekend alongside Calgary Wranglers, Cranbrook Blackwolves, and the Lloydminster Xtreme in a round-robin. After the games, the top two teams will meet for one more series for gold. Hodinsky says the team is really excited.
“They are very excited to have the chance to represent the Lakeland in such an event like provincials.”
The Heat will battle the Lloydminster Xtreme first which has been a tight battle in the past and then encounter the Cranbrook Blackwolves and the Calgary Wranglers for the first time. This is the third time the team has entered provincials.
