Elk Point gears up for a two-day Canada Day celebration

Canada Day 2024 in Elk Point promises a grand celebration filled with activities and events for all ages. The festivities will span two days, beginning on Sunday, June 30th, and culminating in a spectacular finale on Monday July 1st.  

The celebrations kick off on Sunday, June 30th, at 10 a.m. with an Interdenominational Church Service at the Main Stage. For those who enjoy competitive activities, the Ball Tournament at the Elk Point Ball Diamonds, participants can join for $20 per player, with a championship game at 6:30 p.m. at North Hill. Additionally, young athletes can showcase their talents in the Minor Ball Skills Competition, also held at the Ball Diamonds.  

 At 3 p.m. the Arena will host the Soap Box Car Derby, where participants race creatively designed cars. As the evening approaches, the Arena will transform into a hub of entertainment with Beer Gardens, a concession stand, live music, and minute-to-win-it games starting at 8 p.m. The day concludes with a spectacular fireworks display at 11 p.m.

On Monday, June 1st, the celebrations begin at 10:00 a.m., with free ice cream at Lakeland Realty and then the highly anticipated Canada Dat Parade, with a note for the time change, will line up at 9:30 a.m. at the Eco Centre and commence through downtown at 10:30 a.m.  

 From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., attendees can enjoy a BBQ at the Co-op, with all proceeds supporting Helping Hands.  

The Canada Day Stage and Arena will host a variety of activities throughout the day. At 11:30 p.m., the National Drumming Event will feature the rhythmic energy of Chinese Choi Dragon and Lion Dances, with live drumming commencing at 12 p.m.. This will be followed by continuous entertainment on the Main Stage from 12:50 p.m. to 4 p.m., showcasing local talent and performances.  

 Families can enjoy a multitude of fun activities from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., including games, vendor markets, concessions, and food trucks. Behind the arena, a Family Challenge will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m..  

 As the evening sets in, savour a delicious Pyroghy Supper at Allied Arts from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., offering a delightful taste of local cuisine. The celebrations will conclude with a Family Movie Night at the Arena, featuring the film “Super Mario Brothers” at 8 p.m., courtesy of FCSS.
