Bonnyville RCMP respond to armed carjacking, arson, and armed standoff

On June 23, Bonnyville RCMP were alerted to an armed carjacking incident in Kehewin. The victim reported being carjacked at knifepoint by two males.  

En route to the scene, RCMP received reports of the victim’s vehicle spotted in a field in Kehewin with 4-5 individuals around it. Shortly after, the vehicle was set ablaze, and the suspects were seen fleeing towards a nearby house.  

Police Dog Services were deployed, and Ariel Knight of Cold Lake was found hiding in the bushed near the burning vehicle and arrested. Bonnyville RCMP and Police Dog Services then surrounded the house and successfully called out two offenders, Farlynn Smallchild of Thunderchild First Nation and Bradley Whitestone of Kehewin, who surrendered and were taken into custody.  

Further intelligence revealed that two more suspects were hiding inside the residence with two long guns. The K Division Emergency Response Team was called in, leading to the surrender of Phoenix Standingwater of Thunderchild First Nation and Jadelyn Badger of Kehewin. A search warrant executed in the early hours of June 24 resulted in the seizure of two firearms.

All five suspects were held for bail hearings and charged.  

Phoenix Standingwater, charged with robbery with a weapon, arson, possession of stolen property over $5,000, uttering death threats, resisting arrest, and eight firearms offenses. Remanded into custody with a court date set for July 2.  

Farlynn Smallchild, charged with arson, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and four firearms offenses. Released to appear in court on July 23.  

Jadelyn Badger, charged with arson, possession of stolen property over $5,000, reisitng arrest, and four firearms offenses. Released to appear in court on July 23.  

Ariel Knight, charged with arson, possession of stolen property over $5,000. Released to appear in court on July 23.  

The RCMP continues to investigate the incident and urge anyone with information to contact the Bonnyville RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
