Alberta Health Services has issued a public advisory warning residents and visitors to avoid swimming or wading at Kinosoo Beach Cold Lake, effective immediately, due to elevated levels of fecal bacteria detected in the water. Â
The advisory comes after routine testing by AHS Environmental Public Health officers revealed that the water at Kinosoo Beach contains heightened levels of fecal bacteria. At these levels, the bacteria pose significant health risks, including the potential for gastrointestinal illness if the water is ingested. Additionally, contact with the contaminated water could result in skin, ear, and eye infection. Â
AHS is strongly advising against any swimming or wading activities int he affected area until the water quality improves. Visitors and residents are also reminded to refrain from drinking or cooking with untreated water directly from any lake or reservoir, as it can harbor water-born organisms that may cause vomiting and diarrhea.Â
AHS Environmental Public Health officers will continue to closely monitor the water quality at Kinosoo Beach. This advisory will remain in place until further notice, and updates will be provided as the situation evolves. Â
For now, AHS urges the public to heed the advisory and take necessary precautions to protect their health.
