Cold Lake approves criminal record check fee increase for 2025

The city of Cold Lake has approved a slight increase in fees for standard and student criminal record checks for 2025, following amendments to the Criminal Record Check Fee Bylaw during the December 10 council meeting.

This adjustment, part of the city’s broader budget strategy for 2025, is intended to address rising costs and inflation. Starting January 1, 2025, the fee for standard and student record checks will rise by $1, moving from $25 to $26, while the fee for volunteer record checks will remain unchanged at $10.

General Manager of Corporate Services, Kristi Isert, explained that the increase is a modest 2.5 percent adjustment designed to keep pace with inflationary pressures. She highlighted that the volunteer fee was intentionally left unchanged to continue supporting local organizations.

During budget deliberations, council directed strategic, incremental increases to various licenses, fees, and rates. The $1 adjustment for standard and student checks represents a four present rise over the previous rates.

Council approved all three readings of the bylaw during the meeting, ensuring the changes will be implemented as planned.
