From January 3 to January 10, visitors to the emergency department at the William J. Cadzow Healthcare Centre in Lac La Biche may experience temporary disruptions in access to onsite physician services during specific hours.
Alberta Health Services announced that the emergency department will be without onsite physician coverage at the following times.
From 4 p.m. on Friday, January 3, to 8 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 4 p.m. on Monday, January 6, to 8 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7. From 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, to 8 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 9 to 8 a.m. on Friday, January 10 and from 4 p.m. on Friday, January 10, to 8 a.m. on Saturday, January 11.
AHS noted that efforts are ongoing to secure physician coverage, and the disruptions could be cancelled if coverage becomes available.
During these times, nursing staff will remain onsite to provide triage, assessments, and referrals to alternate emergency departments in nearby communities if necessary. EMS will continue to operate in the community, ensuring that residents have access to emergency care when required.
For emergencies, residents are urged to call 911. For non-emergency health-related questions or concerns, Health Link is available 24/7 at 811.
“This is a temporary measure, and AHS is working hard to ensure residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time,” AHS stated, expressing gratitude for the understanding and support of the community, as well as surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff.
