Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigates homicide on Saddle Lake Cree Nation

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit is investigating a homicide that occurred on Saddle Lake Cree Nation.

On January 8, the St. Paul RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence on Saddle Lake Cree Nation. Upon arrival, officers found 61-year-old Garvin Lloyd Chisan with serious injuries. Chisan was transported to a local hospital and later airlifted to Edmonton by STARS. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries later that day.

The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, and on January 10, 44-year-old Jeremy Shaun Cardinal, a resident of Saddle Lake Cree Nation, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

Cardinal has been remanded into custody following a hearing before a Justice of the Peace. He is set to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Lac La Biche on January 13th.
