Due to extreme cold temperatures, most school buses in the Lakeland area have been canceled for today, Monday, January 20. However, schools will remain open, and students who can safely travel to school are encouraged to attend.
For Northern Lights Public Schools, all buses are also canceled for the day, though schools remain open. High school diploma exams will proceed as scheduled for students who can safely attend, and regular classes will continue. However, programming may be adjusted depending on the number of students present. Parents are urged to report absences through the School Messenger app, at https://go.schoolmessenger.ca/, or by calling their child’s school directly.
For the Lakeland Catholic School Division, morning bus routed are cancelled for Bonnyville, Cold Lake, and Waskatenau. However buses will run as scheduled for the afternoon routes. Lac La Biche buses are operating as usual. Schools remain open and will welcome students safely when they arrive.
St. Paul Education morning bus routes are also cancelled and afternoon routes will operate as it is expected to warm up throughout the day. Parents are asked to report student absences as usual. High school diploma exams will proceed, and parents and students are encouraged to drive to school if it is safe to do so. If students are unable to attend their scheduled diploma exams due to the weather, they may defer to the next writing period in April by contacting their school principal. Bus drivers will notify parents directly, and updates will be available on the St. Paul Education website.
Parents across all divisions are reminded that student safety is the top priority. If travel conditions are unsafe, students should remain home, and absences should be reported using the regular procedures.
