Bonnyville RCMP have arrested a 28-year-old Kehewin resident following a home invasion and firearm incident on February 16.
Officers from Bonnyville and St. Paul RCMP responded to the initial scene and determined that the suspect had fled on foot.
A February 20 correction from RCMP clarified that the home invasion occurred in the MD of Bonnyville, while the firearm discharge took place in Kehewin. RCMP established a containment zone and called in the Emergency Response Team. Further investigation revealed that the suspect has escaped in a stolen SUV.
“The vehicle was later located with the assistance of Elk Point RCMP, occupied, on Road 2 in Kehewin,” RCMP stated in a February 18 release. The Emergency Response Team arrested the suspect without further incident.
The suspect, identified as Doulas John, faces multiple charges including, four counts of theft under $5,000 and possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order. Five counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime, and failing to comply with a probation order. Two counts of break and enter with intent and mischief under $5,000. John was also charged with resisting a peace officer, discharging of a firearm with intent, flight from a peace officer, theft of a motor vehicle, and trespassing at night.
John was brought before a Justice fo the Peace and remanded into custody. His last court appearance was on February 18 in Bonnyville.
